I've had a want for a Matra Murena for so long. Such a quirky car.

Murena is nice but so is Bagheera (shown below). The seating layout in these is pretty unique.
Too bad that Murena was Matra's last own car. I think that Espace was somewhat designed by Matra and it was also built in their factory.

French Friday! What's unknown about this Murena? That it's a 3-seater?
I'd prefer the Bagheera U8 though.

I saw one of these once. IN Vancouver BC. No idea how that happened.

Yes. It was in an Autoshow many many moons ago, probably around 1996-1997 or so.

Then you dear sir, are a lucky man! There's only one in the world as far as I know!

Wait wait. Then it must have not been. It must have been the Murena. Sorry. Memory a little fuzzy, I just remember it being french and having legit 3 abreast seating.

Both Murena and Bagheera had this 3-seating feature. And (small) 4-cylinder engines. The Bagheera U8 though had a (small) U8. And yes: that's not a V8 (double crankshafts!!!).

pour une fois que les frenchy avaient fait une caisse rigolote...
MATRA cars rules, this crap can fit the driver and 2 girls! and a middle engine.
a red neck has an engine in the front , mum on the passenger seat and 12 piglets in the back of his truck, yeahaaaa mama!

Oh ok. That's cool. I guess it will remain a mystery since it was so long ago.

Unknown to most people here on this forum I'd suggest !
They seem to be widely available for ordinary prices here

Quite right about that! Had a small discussion with BigBossyBoss about him claiming to have seen that one-off Bagheera U8 in Vancouver ;-)
Haha, I've been to 'Carjoy' (your 'prices') several times, it's nearby. The Dutch Murena-specialist, too bad most of them have lots of plastic add-ons.
But still: I'd rather Bagheera. Could be the project after my 2002 is ready.

I see that the prices vary wildly (€8,000 to €16,000) for what seem to be similar cars. Are the plastic enhanced ones worth much less?

From that view it does look rather more impressive than the newer Murena.

Original is best when it comes to Murenas. But prices at Carjoy always seem to be around 25-30% above 'normal' to me. I can get a good clean (but not awesome) 2.2 from France for around 7k. 1.6s you'll find for 4-5k. But those have only 90hp.
Bagheeras tend to be even cheaper but those chassis tend to rot a 'little'.
